tafmetamatic:taf and METASITU happily present the exhibition With your consent opening on Thursday, 7th April 2016, at 20.30 and running until the 17th April.

The exhibition constitutes a project in progress that starts with a series of events – workshops and will be open to the public from the 4th of April.

In the exhibition With your consent, Akoo-o converses with the practices of surveillance through a sound installation that sets the framework of a particular social contract, in order to manage the actions of people and things within it. A nexus of predefined designs diffuses in the space in order to become an object of voluntary or involuntary processing of the participants in allocated roles. Silently, discretely, tangibly and deafeningly, the practices of surveillance impel the visitors to move within space, obeying to the contingent impact of their desires and choices. The exhibition also includes workshops, performances and discussions.

“The inaudible impossible soundwalk” @ UE Innovative Learning Week

The Impossible Inaudible Soundwalk led by Katerina Taliani (PhD Music, University of Edinburgh) and Akoo – o is  a collective project of the Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture – Edinburgh College of Art that was held in Edinburgh on 15-19th February 2016 in the frame of Innovative Leaning Week Festival, University of Edinburgh.

Participants are invited to question the conceptions of silence and noise and discuss the idea of urban voids and emptiness through collaboration and the application of innovative methodologies. Drawing on sound studies, sound art and walking as research method and artistic practice, this workshop presents the theory and practice of creating a soundwalk.

Through an intensely interdisciplinary approach the symposium explores the contribution of performative and immersive techniques and technologies and new media to the experiential understanding of the city of Edinburgh and its documentation/mapping. Performance events or performative actions can open up possibilities in the ways that architecture can involve different communities by performing together. In doing so, they explore innovative methodologies within the creative process that focus on the relation of the body and the physical space, as well as on the immaterial realms of conscious and sensory experience.

Τα τελευταία χρόνια καλλιτεχνικές πρακτικές και λόγοι περί τέχνης με αντικείμενο το δημόσιο χώρο, το περπάτημα και τον ήχο φαίνεται να πυκνώνουν. Πρόκειται για πεδία ενδιαφέροντος που, ενώ έχουν απασχολήσει έντονα την τέχνη ήδη από τη δεκαετία του 60 (σε αρκετές περιπτώσεις, πολύ πριν από αυτή), διαρκώς εμπλουτίζονται, μεταλλάσσονται και επικαιροποιούνται. Το εργαστήριο εστιάζει στο περπάτημα, τον ήχο και τους διάφορους συνδυασμούς τους από καλλιτεχνική και ανθρωπολογική άποψη ενώ παράλληλα εξετάζει κοινωνικές, πολιτικές και άλλες προεκτάσεις τους στις μέρες μας και στο παρελθόν. Ο χαρακτήρας του είναι τόσο θεωρητικός όσο και πρακτικός: θα περιηγηθούμε στα θέματα που θα μας απασχολήσουν μέσα από ηχητικό και εποπτικό υλικό (προβολή ταινιών και βίντεο), βιβλιογραφία, παρουσιάσεις από ειδικούς καλεσμένους και συζητήσεις, αλλά, κυρίως, μέσα από την ίδια την πρακτική του περπατήματος. Επιπλέον, οι συμμετέχοντες θα εισαχθούν στην ηχογράφηση, την επεξεργασία ήχου και την ηχητική χαρτογράφηση. Το αποτέλεσμα του workshop θα είναι (ηχητικοί) περίπατοι που θα σχεδιάσουν και θα υλοποιήσουν οι συμμετέχοντες ανάλογα με τα ενδιαφέροντά τους και με τα μέσα που οι ίδιοι θα επιλέξουν.

Πρόγραμμα συναντήσεων:

Ενότητα Ι : Περπατώντας (04,11 & 18/11)

Σε αυτήν την ενότητα θα ασχοληθούμε με το περπάτημα ως καλλιτεχνική πρακτική, ενώ θα το εξετάσουμε από εθνογραφική, φιλοσοφική και ιστορική σκοπιά μέσα από διαφορετικές προσεγγίσεις. Θα θίξουμε κοινωνικές και πολιτικές προεκτάσεις του, συζητώντας παράλληλα για τις πολιτικές του δημόσιου χώρου. Τέλος, θα περπατήσουμε λαμβάνοντας υπόψη όσα θα συζητηθούν στην ενότητα και θα προβληματισθούμε επάνω στην (καλλιτεχνική) πρακτική του περπατήματος.

Ενότητα ΙΙ : Ακούγοντας (25/11, 02 & 09/12)

Η Ακουστική Οικολογία και το Ηχοτοπίο είναι οι κεντρικές έννοιες που θα μας απασχολήσουν σε αυτή την ενότητα. Αφενός θα σκιαγραφήσουμε τα όρια ανάμεσα στη μουσική και την τέχνη του ήχου, την τεκμηρίωση και την (ανα)σύνθεση του ηχοτοπίου, στο πλαίσιο της ανθρωπολογίας και της τέχνης. Αφετέρου θα εξασκηθούμε στην ακρόαση, ενώ θα κατασκευάσουμε μικρόφωνα και θα τα χρησιμοποιήσουμε για ηχογραφήσεις πεδίου.

Ενότητα ΙΙΙ : Ακούγοντας και περπατώντας (16 & 23/12, 13/01)

Σε αυτήν την ενότητα θα συνδυάσουμε τον ήχο με το περπάτημα. Θα μας απασχολήσουν ηχητικοί περίπατοι και χάρτες, ξεκινώντας από την ακουστική οικολογία και φτάνοντας σε σύγχρονα παραδείγματα. Καθώς το περπάτημα είναι μια σύνθετη διαδικασία, θα εξετάσουμε τον πολυαισθητηριακό του χαρακτήρα. Θα παρουσιάσουμε καλλιτέχνες που έχουν παράξει listening walks και soundwalks, ενώ θα περπατήσουμε στο πεδίο (ακουστικός περίπατος στο Παγκράτι).

Ενότητα ΙV: Περπατώντας σε μια επαυξημένη πόλη (20 & 27/01, 03/02)

Στο πλαίσιο αυτής της ενότητας θα μελετήσουμε πώς η ακουσματική εμπειρία και η τεχνολογία μεσολαβούν στο βίωμα και στην πραγματικότητα, με αποτέλεσμα την αισθητηριακή επαύξηση στη σχέση μας με την πόλη. Από το walkman μέχρι το GPS, θα προσεγγίσουμε θεωρητικά και ιστορικά την καλλιτεχνική δημιουργία της “επαυξημένης πραγματικότητας”. Χρησιμοποιώντας ως παράδειγμα το λογισμικό noTours θα δημιουργήσουμε γεωεντοπισμένα audiowalk(s) στο Παγκράτι.

Ενότητα V: Ολοκλήρωση και παρουσίαση projects (10&17/02)

Οι δύο τελευταίες συναντήσεις είναι αφιερωμένες στην ολοκλήρωση των projects, τα οποία θα σχεδιάζουμε, θα συζητάμε και θα εξελίσσουμε σε όλη τη διάρκεια του εργαστηρίου.

Αkoo-o is a group of artists and researchers that use sound and mobility as vehicles of expression and social inquiry. Departing from different fields -such as the visual arts, cultural studies, musicology, anthropology, literature, sound design, music composition and performance- we share a common understanding of sound as a cultural material that transgresses the limits of our disciplines; at the same time, we consider walking to be a cultural-artistic practice that carves pathways between our theoretical milieux and leads to meeting points with others. Our work is based on research, and it includes the process of collaboration in the artistic approach, through workshops and other activities. Since our meeting in 2013 we have worked on common projects and engaged in vivid discussions that involve our interest on sound, mapping, promenadology, the relation between the arts, technological mediation and the city.

Οι Akoo-o είναι μια ομάδα καλλιτεχνών και ερευνητών που χρησιμοποιούν τον ήχο και την κινητικότητα ως εκφραστικά και ερευνητικά μέσα. Ξεκινώντας από διαφορετικά πεδία -όπως οι εικαστικές τέχνες, οι πολιτισμικές σπουδές, η μουσικολογία, η ανθρωπολογία, η λογοτεχνία, η μουσική/ηχητική σύνθεση και επιτέλεση- μοιραζόμαστε την κοινή αντίληψη για τον ήχο ως πολιτισμική ύλη που υπερβαίνει τα αυστηρά όρια των “επιστημών” μας. Την ίδια στιγμή βλέπουμε το περπάτημα ως μια πολιτισμική και καλλιτεχνική πρακτική ικανή να χαράξει μονοπάτια ανάμεσα στα θεωρητικά μας περιβάλλοντα και να μας οδηγήσει σε συναντήσεις με άλλα πλαίσια αναφοράς. Η δουλειά μας βασίζεται στην έρευνα και ενσωματώνει τη συνθήκη της συνεργατικότητας στην καλλιτεχνική μας προσέγγιση, μέσα από εργαστήρια και άλλες δράσεις. Από την αρχή της γνωριμίας μας το 2013 έχουμε δουλέψει σε κοινά εγχειρήματα και έχουμε εμπλακεί σε ζωηρές συζητήσεις στη βάση του κοινού μας ενδιαφέροντος για τον ήχο, τη χαρτογράφηση, την περιπατολογία, τη σχέση μεταξύ των τεχνών, την τεχνολογική διαμεσολάβηση και την πόλη.
